A Time to Change
On Ash Wednesday the Lenten season began and I spoke to the children about how we are preparing for Easter. I told them that as we prepare for Easter we should make some changes in our lives to bring us closer to God. We will be discussing how Jesus gave us the greatest commandment of all: to Love God above all and to love one another as God loves you. The children will think of ways they can show their love for their parents, siblings, friends, and teachers to become a little bit more like Jesus.
During spring, I always teach my students about the life cycle of butterflies
and how seeds change and grow into flowers/plants. The changes may not be evident at first but they are taking place. I hope that during this Lenten season we will change like a butterfly and seed to become more like Jesus! Ask your child to tell you about the changes they are going through!
Dr. Seuss
Tomorrow is the anniversary of the beloved author/illustrator Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. I have activities planned for the entire week which include reading an assortment of his books to the class. If your child has a favorite Dr. Seuss book please have them bring it in! We are in for a fun week!
Book Fair
The school will host a Scholastic Book Fair from March 8-11. There will be a variety of books on sale. A flyer is going home with an idea of some of the books. We will be taking the children to preview the books so they can make a wish list on Tuesday, March 8. If you would like your child to buy any books, please send your money in a sealed envelope labeled “Book Fair” and we will take your child to the book fair to make their purchases on Wednesday, March 9, Thursday, March 10, and Friday, March 11. You are also invited to visit the Book Fair for evening hours on Thursday, March 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m.
St. Patrick and the Shamrock
We will be discussing the life of St. Patrick. Please ask your child to retell you some interesting facts about him and how he used the shamrock to teach the people of Ireland about the Trinity.
St. Patrick’s Day
In the past Lucky the Leprechaun has made a visit to my classroom but I have never gotten the chance to meet him. He always leaves my students and I a note and we always try to search for him at school, but he always seems to get away. I am hoping that this will be the year we meet Lucky. I heard that Leprechauns like to wear green. I was wondering maybe if we wear green he may think we are some of his Leprechaun friends and we may catch him! Let’s all try and wear green on the 17th!
